The second annual Banking and Finance Meetup at Eastern Kentucky University will be held on Thursday, April 5, and Kentucky's bankers are taking notice.
Representatives from area banks and financial service providers will be on hand in EKU's Business and Technology Center for the sector-focused event. The evening of networking will showcase business majors with a special keynote address from Kentucky Banking Commissioner Charles A. Vice.
The Meetup will convene at 4 p.m. in the BTC Rogow Auditorium with a greeting from College of Business and Technology Dean Dr. Tom Erekson. Commissioner Vice will speak on the banking industry in Kentucky and then open the floor for questions. Following the presentation by Vice, students, faculty and financial institutions will convene in the BTC Atrium for a networking session until 6 p.m.
Vice was appointed commissioner of the Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) in August 2008. As commissioner, Vice has responsibility for the regulatory oversight of all Kentucky state-chartered financial institutions, which includes examinations, licensing of financial professionals, registration of securities and enforcement.
Hecontinues to serve in a national leadership role through the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS), the nationwide organization representing state bank regulators. As a former chairman, he maintains the status of director emeritus of CSBS. He is only the second commissioner from Kentucky to have led thenational group.
Vice had previously served on other national regulatory groups, including the State Regulatory Registry LLC Board of Managers, the Education Foundation of State Bank Supervisors, and two Federal Financial Institution Examination Council groups, the Taskforce on Supervision and the State Liaison Committee.
Prior to joining DFI, hewas an employee of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) for 18 years, serving in the Lexington, Kentucky,field office. During his tenure with the FDIC, Vice served as the office's expert on subprime lending and capital markets. He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1990 and resides todayin Winchester, Kentucky.
