EKU Online, the online learning community at Eastern Kentucky University, has founded a chapter of Omega Nu Lambda, a collegiate honor society for online students. More than 120 high-achieving EKU Online students have accepted invitations to join the national organization.

Omega Nu Lambda was created to foster unity among individuals who earn their degrees online. Students who feel connected to their peers are more successful in online programs, so the organization helps build relationships between students at member institutions across the United States. It also celebrates academic achievement and offers scholarships. To qualify for membership, students must have completed at least 15 hours of online classes and earned a GPA of 3.2 or better.

Tim Matthews, executive director of the EKU Office of e-Campus Learning, explained that Omega Nu Lambda embodies the values held by EKU faculty and staff.

“EKU is known for its welcoming, supportive environment that puts student first,” said Matthews. “Just like our on-campus students, online students receive personalized advising. Our faculty know them by name and encourage them to connect online, by email or by phone. We build relationships into the EKU Online experience. Omega Nu Lambda is an extension of that.”

Lakin Wooldridge, associate director for undergraduate online degree programs, will serve as the chapter’s advisor. Members may be able to apply for scholarship funds as early as February 2019. To learn more about EKU Online degrees and certificates, visit go.EKU.edu/ONL2018.
