Eastern Kentucky University’s PGA Golf Management Program finished fourth at the recent Jones Cup Tournament in Saint Lucie, Florida.
The team shot a two-day team total of 603 (303-300), marking the highest finish to date for the Colonels. Last year, EKU placed 11th out of 19 teams.
All 19 accredited PGA Golf Management universities nationwide participated in the two-day, 36-hole stroke play event at PGA Golf Club’s Wanamaker Course.
This year’s EKU Jones Cup team featured Nathan Bratcher, a junior from Louisville, Kentucky; Tyler Collet, a senior from Cross Lanes, West Virginia; Madison Erskine, a freshman from Ronceverte, West Virginia; Phillip Webb, a sophomore from Irvine, Kentucky; and Robert Wolfers, a junior from Spring City, Pennsylvania. Three of the five team members — Bratcher, Collet and Wolfers — also played on the 2015 EKU Jones Cup team. EKU PGM faculty member Ross Lingenfelder accompanied the team.
Collet won the Individual Medalist award with the lowest two-day score (143). “The Jones Cup this year was great,” Collet said. “Last year I played great, but I went into this year with a goal to be under par for the two days, which I accomplished.”
“It is very exciting to be a part of a team that made history at Jones Cup this year, and we had our best finish to date,” Wolfers said. “To be a part of that means a great deal, but we also have a bright future with guys ready now that will represent EKU in future Jones Cups.”
