A 2012 Eastern Kentucky University graduate recently received the prestigious Hazel Brannon Smith scholarship from the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors Foundation.

Abigial Whitehouse, who earned a bachelor's degree in English with a concentration in creative writing, became editor of The Interior Journal in Stanford earlier this year.

While at EKU, Whitehouse joined the staff of The Eastern Progress and later held a 10-week internship with the Franklin Favorite funded by the Kentucky Press Association. She went on to work for the Casey County News before taking the Interior Journal position in April.

Whitehouse anticipates remaining in community journalism for the foreseeable future.
