The Eastern Kentucky University campus and Richmond community will come together on Sunday, Nov. 22, to honor the memory of Dr. Ken Haddix and help pass on his love for music to future generations.

A benefit concert, at 7 p.m. in Brock Auditorium, will feature performances by EKU music students, the Madison Middle School Jazz Band, EKU music faculty member Dr. Richard Crosby, and others. Tickets are $5 for those 12 and up; $3 for children ages 4-12, and free for children under 4. All proceeds will go to the Ken Haddix Scholarship Fund. Tickets may be purchased at sai-etasigma.ticketleap.com/ken-haddix-benefit-concert or at the door with cash or credit card.

Haddix, who passed away in August 2015 after a brave battle with cancer, joined the EKU music faculty in 2002 and taught applied trombone, trombone ensemble and trombone methods and directed the Brass Choir. Also during his tenure at Eastern, he served as associate director of bands and directed the marching, concert and pep bands and performed in the University’s Faculty Brass Quintet.

One of the best trombonists in the region, he performed with numerous orchestras around Kentucky and with such prominent entertainers as Doc Severinsen. A passionate advocate for music education, he was also an active member of the Kentucky Music Educators Association and served on the Festival Commission of KMEA.

The scholarship fund in his honor has already amassed $6,000 and will be endowed so that it continues in perpetuity once it reaches $10,000.

The concert will be hosted by the EKU chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, an international music fraternity. The campus chapters of Phi Mu Alpha and Delta Omicron, other music fraternities, are assisting.

The doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
