EKU’s Management Information systems degree is specifically designed for students who wish to work in business IT departments, focusing on the business application of computer technology. Advanced mathematics courses are not required, and the degree is not heavily focused on computer programming. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment for management information systems managers is projected to grow 16 percent from now until 2032, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. Approximately 48,500 job openings for computer and management information systems managers are projected each year.

A bachelor’s degree in management information systems (MIS) focuses on the applications and implications of computing in the world of business. This program prepares graduates for a variety of employment opportunities in the local and regional job market. The program prepares knowledgeable workers with IT skills and business analytics skills ready to make a positive Impact on economic growth in the state of Kentucky and beyond. Program Options

Choose between two concentrations that offer the opportunity to tailor the degree to specific career goals and give you a competitive edge in the job market. Options include:

The Business Analytics Concentration prepares students for careers as Data Analyst, Business Intelligence Analyst, Data Architect, Business Systems Analyst, Data Warehousing, and Data Consultant. Students learn skills such as data visualization, data cleaning, statistical analysis, and data-driven decision making.

The Security Systems Concentration prepares students for careers as IT Manager, Project Manager, Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, Data Base Engineer, and Programmer/Analyst. Students learn skills such as business programming, e-business technology, database management systems, and IT project management.

Curriculum & Enrollment


Learn essential skills for today’s business and technology careers. Our programs are made up of high-quality courses and taught by experienced professors. The MIS degree is focused the business application of computer technology. It does not require advanced mathematics courses, such as calculus, and it is not heavily focused on computer programming.

A minimum of 120 credits are required to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in management information systems.

Please review the admissions requirements before applying for this or any program. If you have questions about the program or are planning to register for classes, please speak to the program advisor.

Students may transfer up to 90 hours of credit from accredited institutions. Please note that a minimum of 30 credit hours in this degree program must be completed at Eastern Kentucky University.

Previously earned credits must be reviewed upon admission to EKU for appropriate articulation.

All applicants must provide an application and evidence of appropriate scholastic achievement through prior educational experience.

Please note that certain degree programs have special admission requirements. Admission to the University does not mean automatic admission to all degree programs.

The completed application and all required supporting documentation must be received by the University no later than:

• August 1 for fall enrollment
• December 1 for spring enrollment
• May 1 for summer enrollment
