Through the Eastern Kentucky University Master of Public Health program, you can gain the necessary skillset to begin a career promoting community change and advocating for healthy lifestyles. This program can also enhance your medical school application or advance your existing career.

Admissions Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Combined score of at least 291 on the verbal and quantitative components of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) with a minimum of 143 in each area OR a score of 385 on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) (Applicants with cumulative undergraduate GPAs of 3.0 or higher are exempt from this requirement.)
  • Submission of graduate school application
  • Submission of MPH Program application (no specific deadline – rolling admissions)
  • Submission of statement of personal and professional objectives (1½ to 2-pages)
  • Submission of three letters of recommendation from employers or previous professors
  • For international applicants, a TOEFL score of at least 580 for paper-based test and 237 for the computer-based version OR an IELTS minimum score of 5 on each section and a minimum score of 6.5 on the overall band score

So that timely progress toward the degree can be achieved, the following undergraduate prerequisite courses are expected to be completed prior to active participation in the program:

  • Industrial Hygiene:  at least 1 physical science plus a physics course, 2 chemistry with lab, 2 biology with lab, college algebra and 1 microbiology course at the undergraduate level
  • Environmental Health Science:  at least 1 physical science, 2 chemistry with lab, 2 biology with lab, college algebra and 1 microbiology course at the undergraduate level
  • Public Health Nutrition:  an undergraduate basic nutrition course, which may also be completed during the student’s first semester of program enrollment
