The Bachelor of Sport Management degree program prepares students for the complex and challenging world of sport by offering an interdisciplinary focus with courses in both sport management and business. Sport management courses include legal issues, sports information, event and facility planning, promotion, media relations and sport finance. Business courses include marketing, management, economics, and accounting. The program culminates with an internship, providing the student “hands on” experience within the industry. Internships are offered cooperatively with a variety of sport organizations including professional sports teams, college athletic departments, community organizations, and recreational sports and fitness centers. To improve marketability and employment opportunities, students should also select courses in basic media skills, desktop video, fundraising, and sportswriting and reporting.
