The department offers a minor and certificates to students in academic programs other than exercise and sport science.
Undergraduate Minor
Minor in Coaching Requirements – 19 Cr. Hours
Required Courses (19 Credit Hours)
- ESS 212 Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries (3)
- ESS 301 Foundations of Coaching (3)
- ESS 322 Legal Issues in Sport (3)
- ESS 383 Sports Officiating (1)
- ESS 423 Psychology of Coaching (3)
- ESS 224 Team Sports II (3) or ESS 305 Individual and Dual Sports I (3)
- ESS 407 Strength & Conditioning (3) or ESS 590 Advanced Strength and Conditioning (3)
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification required at time of graduation
Coaching / Personal Training Certificate Program
The department also offers this Certificate Program for teachers looking to add coaching experience or individuals looking to become Certified Personal Trainers. After completing the required course work, then students must register for and take the NSCA-CPT Exam. The student is responsible for registering for this exam and all fees associated with the exam.
