Mission
To fulfill a leadership role in addressing the rehabilitation needs of individuals in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and beyond through research, education, and service.
The Rehabilitation and Health Sciences Doctoral Program is designed to produce academic leaders in rehabilitation sciences for the professions of occupational therapy, communication disorders, physical therapy, and athletic training. Graduates of the program will be prepared to conduct rehabilitation related research, teach in higher education, direct discipline-specific educational programs, work in the rehabilitation services field, and collaborate with other professions on various issues related to rehabilitation.
Current and former occupational therapy students and faculty in the RHB doctoral program at the 10 year reunion in 2010.
Curriculum
Some courses are available via distance learning but the entire program may not be completed online. The curriculum is composed of:
- A required core in rehabilitation theory, research, & evidence based practice
- Advanced areas of specialization consistent with student’s discipline and clinical expertise
- Research apprenticeship
- Teaching apprenticeship
- Dissertation
Admissions
Occupational therapists applying for admission must have a minimum of master’s degree, be initially certified by NBCOT, and be eligible for licensure in occupational therapy.
Applicants must apply to both the University of Kentucky Graduate School and the Rehabilitation Sciences Doctoral Program.
Application deadlines for admission to the program are as follows:
- Fall Semester: admission June 1st
- Spring Semester: admission October 1st
- Summer: admission March 1st
