What Are You Looking For?
Attempting to decide on a major or career without determining your priorities is like driving at night with no headlights. It is difficult to see the potential paths ahead! By reflecting on your values, interests, personality, and skills, you begin to shed some light on those paths and see the way more clearly.
Values are those things in life you consider to be important – those things that make you happy. In relation to careers, values are what give purpose to the career. Living or working in ways that contradict your values can lead to dissatisfaction, confusion, and discouragement.
Job satisfaction and success is closely linked to being interested in what you do. When you choose a career that matches your overall interests, you’re more likely to enjoy your job…and be successful.
Not only can exploring your personality help you understand your own behaviors and how you interact with others, but it can also provide you with vital insights into the type of work environment that may best suit you.
Your skills describe what you like to do and what you’re good at. You develop skills through training and experience.
