Jessica Overbay, senior political science major and pre-law and communication studies minor, is one of the Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) students selected for this year’s Colonels at the Capitol Internship Program (CCIP). CCIP interns spend Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Kentucky State Capitol working with state legislators.
“The Colonels at the Capitol Internship Program has been a wonderful experience,” Overbay said. “I intern for Senator Brandon Storm who is actually the senator serving my home county, Laurel.” Storm graduated from EKU in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in police administration.
Participants for the CCIP are selected after a competitive application process, which requires a 3.0 overall GPA and a 3.2 major GPA and completion of POL 101: Introduction to American Government.
“Through the internship, I have seen public policy in a new light, and my appreciation for the legislative process has grown,” said Overbay. “My time at the Capitol has been truly invaluable, and I am grateful to Senator Storm, the Legislative Research Commission (LRC) staff and all those at EKU that made this experience possible.”
