EKU Musical Theater is excited to invite you to the Kit Kat Club. Cabaret takes place during the fall of Weimar Germany just as Nazism begins to rear its ugly head. The episodic plot, centered around of a group of night club performers, artists, smugglers, sex workers, and assorted riff raff, is about the relationship between the flighty and uninhibited performer Sally Bowles and the listless ex-pat American writer Cliff Bradshaw, a stand in for Christopher Isherwood, whose novel Berlin Stories the show is based on. Swinging back and forth between production numbers in the Kit Kat Klub and the flat that Sally and Cliff share, the show is a sexy, seductive, satirical, and heart-breaking warning against the apathy of hedonism in the face of fascism. Warning: This production is rated PG-13 and depicts alcohol, strong language, mild adult themes, and smoking. Based on the play by John Van Druten and Stories by Christopher Isherwood, Originally co-directed and choreographed by Rob Marshall, Originally directed by Sam Mendes, Musid by John Kander, Lyrics by Fred Ebb, Book by Joes Masteroff.

Our mission is to empower agency and citizenship through the works of William Shakespeare. We challenge our community to answer the question: what does Shakespeare say to me, what do I say with him? Our region has a beautifully unique worldview that is not celebrated often enough. Portrayals of our region rarely express a true Appalachian experience and often focus on negative stereotypes. We want to counteract this narrative by confronting high culture with the agency of Appalachian students: we provide a safe place for Appalachian students to realize their story and tell it using Shakespeare’s text as a tool to contextualize their place in the world.
