Bio
Julie Smith received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music, Julie received a Bachelor of Music in Oboe Performance from Mercer University in Macon, Ga and a Master’s Degree from the University of Kentucky. Her principle teachers include Dr. Mark Ostoich, Nancy Clauter, and Maestro Adrian Gnam. Julie has recently joined the faculty of Eastern Kentucky University as Adjunct Professor of Oboe.
An active chamber, orchestral, and solo musician, Julie is a founding member of Ara Winds, Principal oboe of the Tri-State Chamber Players, and she also performs with the Double or Nothing Ensemble. She is Principal oboe of the Lebanon Symphony Orchestra and has also performed with the Dayton Philharmonic, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, and Lexington Philharmonic. Julie has been featured as a soloist on both oboe and English horn with the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Macon Symphony Orchestra, and the Mercer University Orchestra after winning concerto competitions through the respective organizations. As a member of the 2010 season of the Pierre Monteux School for Conductors and Orchestral Musicians, Julie performed under the direction of Maestro Michael Jinbo and Leon Fleisher.
Maintaining an active private studio in Greater Cincinnati, Julie has taught at the Beechwood Independent Schools in Fort Mitchell, Music Maker’s in Florence, and throughout the Centerville City Schools. Julie has worked as the Teaching Assistant for the University of Kentucky Oboe Studio and as the Graduate Assistant for the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Oboe Studio.
