Bio
Larry Nelson is Associate Professor of Saxophone, Jazz Studies, and Musicology at Eastern Kentucky University. He teaches applied lessons in saxophone and directs the EKU Jazz Ensemble, the EKU Saxophone Quartets, and the jazz saxophone group Saxophobia. He has also taught Jazz Improvisation and various Music History courses.
An active performer on saxophone and electric and upright bass, Larry is a member of the Dimartino-Osland Jazz Orchestra, the Kentucky Jazz Repertory Orchestra, the Osland Saxophone Quartet, the Lexington Jazz Collective, and various regional commercial bands. He has performed with Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, the Temptations, Manhattan Transfer, Doc Severinsen, the Four Tops, Johnny Mathis, the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Lou Rawls, the Jimmy Dorsey orchestra, and many others artists of note.
