Journal of Excellence in College Teaching & Learning


The Journal for Excellence in College Teaching and Learning is a peer-refereed electronic journal originally sponsored by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education Faculty Development Group. The journal is published by the College of Education & Applied Human Sciences, Eastern Kentucky University. General categories for articles include theory, research, and practice. In addition, the Journal will publish manuscripts containing book or media reviews, profiles, and commentary. The Journal targets the professional development of college and university faculty within the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Its primary goal is to enhance student learning by promoting excellence in teaching in higher education institutions in Kentucky. Its presence will also serve to further a national and international awareness of teaching and learning issues and best practices in higher education.

Submission Guidelines for Research, Theory, and Practice Papers respectively

  • Submit original manuscripts in MS Word documents to the journal’s website.
  • Use APA style when preparing the manuscript. Please refer to the American Psychological Association Manual of Style, Seventh Edition.
  • Include an abstract of 200 – 250 words.
  • Insert one-inch margins and double-space your manuscript.
  • The length of your manuscript should be between 3000 – 5000 words using Times New Roman, 12-point font.
  • Use a minimum of tables. Provide image – ready tables, figures, graphs, and charts on separate pages. Include only essential data in the tables, figures, graphs, and charts. Combine tables whenever possible.
  • Do not include the author’s name(s), positions, titles, places of employment and mailing addresses on the cover page to safeguard anonymity.
  • Do not use generic masculine pronouns or other sexist terminology in your manuscript.

Articles published in the Kentucky Journal of Excellence in College Teaching and Learning reflect the views of the authors and not of the Editors, Editorial Board, or Eastern Kentucky University.

  • Do not provide an abstract.
  • Double-space your manuscript and insert one-inch margins.
  • The length of your manuscript should be 1000 to 2000 words in Times New Roman, 12-point font. Do not use tables, unless absolutely necessary.
  • Do not include the author’s name(s), positions, titles, places of employment and mailing addresses on the cover page to safeguard anonymity.
  • Do not use generic masculine pronouns or other sexist terminology in your manuscript.

Thanks for you interest in submitting a manuscript to the Kentucky Journal of Excellence in College Teaching and Learning. Before you start the submission process, you should:

  • Review the specific submission guidelines for the type of manuscript you are submitting
  • Develop a title for your manuscript – preferably 10 words or less
  • Develop an abstract of 200-250 words to be submitted along with your manuscript
  • Prepare your manuscript as a MS Word document using APA format, Seventh Edition. Please do not include a title page or any other identifying information as this will be added after the review process is complete.
  • When saving your file in Word, please use the key words in the manuscript title as opposed to the name of the author(s) to ensure anonymity.

You will receive an email confirming your submission after you complete all steps and click the submission button. The review process will begin as soon as the editors receive a readable file with an abstract and title.
