Mark A. Graham, Major General, U.S. Army (Retired)

“Military veterans have unique identities, cultures, and challenges that influence their readjustment to civilian life, especially after experiencing war. There are hundreds of thousands of professionals in the government, private, and non-profit sectors working to understand veterans and assist to them in leading productive, healthy lives.

The Veterans Studies Program at Eastern Kentucky University, a leading program designed to educate students about veterans’ identities, cultures, and experiences, is uniquely positioned to help bridge the gap between civilian and military cultures.

The skills of any professional seeking to provide services to veterans would be enhanced by an education in Veterans Studies. Veterans themselves can learn from their experiences and explore them in Veterans Studies courses. The overall program promises to produce meaningful interactions between veterans and students each and every semester. My hope is Eastern Kentucky University invests in this promising program in order to
grow and transform the lives of military veterans across the nation.”
