What’s Next, Future Colonel?

We’re looking forward to seeing you on campus! Use the checklist below to keep track of the next steps for enrolling at EKU in the summer or fall. Once you attend Orientation and confirm your enrollment, you will be considered an enrolled student.

Next Steps

Before Orientation

  • Set up your myEKU & EKU Student email accounts.
myEKU is where all the important stuff happens. You’ll register for classes, accept your scholarships, and pay tuition here. To setup your accounts, login to your Admissions Portal using the email you applied with. Choose your application on the screen and it will open to the welcome page. Once you see a student number, password, and student email, you can use the directions to set up your myEKU account and your student email.
  • Pay the Colonel Commitment Fee.
Pay this nonrefundable fee by clicking on the checklist tab and following the prompts in your EKU student portal. Paying the Colonel Commitment Fee is the first step to sign up for orientation. Please contact your admissions counselor if you are having problems logging in or finding your portal.
  • Register for New Student Orientation.
Choose from dates in late May, June, or July. Regional campus students should register for orientation at the campus they plan to attend.
  • Submit your On Campus Housing Application or complete a Housing Exemption Request form.
  • Accept your scholarships in myEKU by June 1.
All incoming freshmen have until the end of March to submit updated test scores or GPA on a high school transcript for scholarship upgrades. Scholarships that must be accepted by the deadline include Merit Scholarships Tier 1-4, Governor’s Scholar, Out-of-State Merit Scholar I-IV, Dr. Rodney Gross, and New Horizon.
  • Review financial aid options and complete any remaining paperwork.
Be sure to have the EKU school code (001963) listed on your FAFSA and submit it as soon as possible. Details of your awards can be found in your myEKU account.
  • Submit test scores or sign up for placement testing.
ACT, SAT, KYOTE (KY students) or EKU placement exam scores are used to place you in the correct English, math, and science courses. If you have not yet tested, sign up for the KYOTE test at your Kentucky high school or sign up for the Residual ACT (low cost) or EKU placement exam (no cost if taken on campus). Complete placement testing as soon as possible, but no later than 2 weeks prior to your scheduled New Student Orientation date.
  • Apply for services with the Center for Student Accessibility. (optional)
  • Submit a photo for your Colonel Card.
(You must be registered for Orientation to do this.) Your Colonel Card serves as your official EKU ID and is used for services on campus like meal plans, building access, student athletic tickets, class attendance, Colonel Cash and as a library card.
  • Submit AP Test Scores and/or college transcripts for Dual Credit courses.
College-level coursework that was completed during high school (dual credit) requires an official college transcript be sent to EKU in order to receive credit. You can request college transcripts from the Registrar’s Office of the university you completed the dual credit courses at. These transcripts should be sent to EKU Admissions. You do not need to request transcripts for EKU dual credit courses. AP test scores should be sent directly from the AP testing service to EKU. Spring AP test scores are not received by EKU until July.
  • Complete your Pre-advising Survey.
About one month before Orientation, you’ll receive a pre-advising survey in your EKU Student email. This survey will allow you to verify (or change) your major, see course choices for your chosen major, communicate about AP & dual credit coursework and provide feedback on general education course choices based on your interests. Your academic advisor will use this survey to help you register for classes.
  • Attend Orientation and confirm your enrollments.
More details will be sent via email closer to your scheduled Orientation date.

After Orientation

  • June
  • Submit your final high school transcript.
Your final high school transcript should have all of your grades, your graduation date and must be dated the day of graduation or later. You can request your transcript be sent to EKU by contacting your high school.

  • July
  • Choose a Meal Plan.
  • Order a parking pass if you will have a vehicle on campus.
  • Review your financial aid information in myEKU for final details. Check your myEKU Financial Services card. Make sure there are not any additional messages for document requests or missing signatures.
  • Review the BookSmart program. Make any optional purchase at the EKU Barnes & Noble Bookstore online or when you come to campus.
  • August
  • Pay your tuition and fees or set up a payment plan online through your myEKU account.

  • Move into your campus housing. (Students living on campus only.)
Your specific move in date and time will be sent to you by EKU Housing & Residence Life later in the summer. ROTC, the Marching Colonels & Maroonettes, Spirit Groups and NCAA athletes may have an earlier move in date. Please check with the leadership of those programs directly.
  • Attend Big E Welcome!
The Big E Welcome is held about 5 days before classes start with a full schedule of events for new students. This program is mandatory for all incoming freshman and new undergraduate students with less than 30 hours, both residential and commuter students join in. Trust us, it’s a lot of fun!

Admission Eligibility: All transfer students must have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, and be in good academic and financial standing at their previous institution.
