Make efficient use of study time and homework

  • Active reading
  • Review your class notes within 24 hours of class
  • Organize your material
  • Listen to tips from professors and resources on campus

Limit distractions

  • Turn off phone
  • Close windows on your computer with social media and other distractions

Find a study space

  • Inviting space
  • Not too comfortable
  • Nothing you associate with something else (i.e. your bed is for sleeping; the
    dining hall is for eating)
  • Well-lighted
  • Clean (cluttered = busy and distracting)
  • Low traffic – not where your friends hang out

Use down time wisely

  • Walking to and from class, think about a lecture or review notes in your head. Think about discussion points. Reflect on what you are learning.
  • Waiting before class, preview material.
  • Doing laundry, etc.

Organize yourself

  • Time spent looking for things is time wasted.
  • Keep notebooks, your calendar.
  • Prepare for tutoring sessions in advance.

Attitude is everything

  • Believing you can accomplish your goals is crucial to success
  • Set high expectations for yourself and believe you can reach them
  • Avoid self-defeating behaviors like procrastination
  • Recognize when you have taken on too much – Prioritize
  • Be a risk-taker when you know you’ll grow from it
  • Positive visualization – visualize the A, visualize graduation
