Student Complaints

In general, any student who feels they have not been treated appropriately by a University official may file a complaint or grievance following the procedures below. To find the appropriate leader of an area, call the Office of the President at 859-622-2101.

Academic Affairs Area

Complaints other than grade appeals involving a particular class or instructor should be communicated to the instructor or faculty member directly involved. If no resolution is reached, a written complaint or grievance should be filed with the Department Chair of the class where you are having the problem. If you are not satisfied with the Department Chair’s explanation, a written appeal should be sent to the Dean of the College. If you are not satisfied with the Dean’s explanation, the final written appeal of the complaint or grievance procedure should be made to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.

A complaint involving a department (other than a college) that reports to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost should be filed with the director of the office where you are having the problem. If you are not satisfied with the department director’s response, the final written appeal of the complaint or grievance should be filed with the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Finance and Administration Area

A complaint or grievance with a department reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer should be filed with the leader or manager of the office where you are having the problem. If you are not satisfied with the response, a written appeal of the complaint or grievance should be filed with the Director or Executive Director who has direct administrative oversight for that office. Any subsequent final appeal should be filed with the Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer.

Student Success Area

A complaint or grievance with a department reporting to the Senior Vice President for Student Success should be filed through this webform. If you are not satisfied with the department director’s response, a written complaint or grievance should be filed with the appropriate Associate Vice President or Executive Director. If you are not satisfied with the Associate Vice President or Executive Director’s response, the final written appeal of the complaint or grievance should be made to the Senior Vice President for Student Success.

For offices not listed in the areas above, students should contact the Office of the President at 859-622-2101 to determine the appropriate person(s)/office(s) where a complaint should be filed.
