Responsible Conduct of Research

Principal investigators, students, post-doctoral researchers, and others involved in sponsored research have an obligation to ensure the responsible conduct of research (RCR). Responsible and ethical research is critical for excellence as well as public trust, and education in the responsible conduct of research is essential to the preparation of future researchers.

The University’s Responsible Conduct of Research Training Plan is available here. The plan outlines training and reporting requirements and provides resources for implementing the plan.

Sponsored Programs hosts regular virtual sessions on the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR). Training is required for PIs, other faculty, staff, and students working on awards sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), and other agencies with RCR training requirements. The training schedule is available here and will be regularly updated. PIs may also request small group sessions for students by contacting Tiffany Hamblin.
