Privilege Management for Mac

BeyondTrust’s Privilege Management software allows users to continue to use their macOS device as needed once local administrative rights are removed. Privilege Management will allow us to remove Local Administrator privileges but provide us the flexibility of improving security without enforcing lockdown.  It will allow you enough control over your computer system to perform your job function, while minimizing the risk of malware or suspicious software. You should experience very little disruption as part of this process. You may be prompted by a customized message from Privilege Management rather than the standard MacOS messages, but these prompts will be clear and easy to follow. We aim to make the experience as seamless as possible.

Installation of PKGs

Download your installer to the desktop of your mac for best results.

  • Run your .pkg file as normal
  • There will be a pop up asking you to confirm the operation and if you wish to proceed. Choose “Yes” if you want to install the software.
  • Follow the Apple installer as normal
  • If you run into an issue with a popup that says the installer is blocked, make sure that the installer is on your desktop and try to run the installer from there.

Installation of DMGs

Download your installer to the desktop of your mac for best results.

  • Open your DMG as normal
  • Right click on the software in that pop up box and select install with privilege management. There will be a PMFM icon on the program.

Installation of Programs That Need to Be Placed in the Applications Folder

  • Often when Applications download as .app files instead of dmg or pkgs, they will need to be manually moved into the applications folder to work appropriately.
  • Drag your program into the application folder and PMFM will pop up to confirm you want to proceed with the action. Choose “Yes” if you want to install the software.
