JAMF Self Service

The JAMF Self Service application is the utility that EKU IT uses to make software available for installation without prompts for administrative rights and configured for use on EKU’s campus and workstation.  It is also the mechanism the EKU IT uses to ensure that applications are kept up to date to ensure that macOS devices and associated data are kept secure.

Opening Self Service

There are three ways to access Self Service on a Mac. You will only have self service if you are connected to JAMF, the mac management system.

  • It may be present on your dock.  If so, you will see an icon with the Power E (pictured below).
  • From the Mac menu bar, click GO and select Applications.  When the Application folder opens, scroll down to find the Self Service application.
  • Use the search (command + space bar) function to search Self Service

Down the left side of Self Service application there are a list of options to select from.

Home

  • This is the default screen the application displays upon launch

Browse

  • Applications available for installation have been categorized by IT to make them more easily accessible. Most commonly used categories are Featured, Microsoft, Utilities.

Notifications

  • This area will display notices of installations required by IT; these are usually upgrades to currently installed applications
  • Notices of installation will also be shown here.  When an installation completes the status is shown here.

History

  • This area contains a list of all applications and application upgrades that have been initiated or mandated via the Self Service application

Install Programs

Once an application is found that you would like to install, simply click the Install button located under the icon and name.  The installation button will then be replaced with a blue square and round progress bar showing the installation status.  Once installation is complete, either the icon will be removed from the list or the installation button will change to a Reinstall button.  This behavior depends on how the application advertisement was configured by IT.
