How To Report a Scam or Phishing Email

If you receive an email that you suspect might be a scam or phishing email, there are several ways you can report it.

Forward the Email to SPAM@EKU.EDU

  • Forward the email to SPAM@EKU.EDU
  • Ignore and delete the message
  • NEVER click links in these emails.  If you did, please contact the IT Service Desk.
  • Reporting emails this way will alert EKU IT Security staff, who can then investigate and take steps to block malicious senders

Use the Report Button in the Outlook Web Client

  • If you are using Outlook through a web browser, you can use the Report button
  • Select the email in question and click Report in the top ribbon
  • You will see a drop down menu with options to “Report phishing” or “Report junk”
  • Phishing emails are criminal scams and attempts to steal your account or personal information – junk emails are simply unwanted emails (sales offers and the like)
  • Select the appropriate option for the email
  • Reporting emails this way will improve Microsoft Defender’s automatic detection of phishing and junk emails
