Federal SEOGs provide funds for students who have an exceptional financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It is gift aid and usually does not have to be repaid.
Eligibility is determined by a federal formula (Federal Methodology) established by Congress. Priority is given to Federal Pell recipients and to “exceptionally” needy students as defined by the U.S. Department of Education. Funds are awarded to those with the earliest FAFSA completion date until exhaustion. Full-time enrollment (12 credit hours) is required at the Pell recalculation date for SEOG funds to disburse. Students must be undergraduate and cannot be in a post-baccalaureate program.
You must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available on the FAFSA website.
