Welcome to the EKU Network Drive Access Guide! As an EKU employee, you have access to storage drives that are available while connected to the EKU network. This guide will walk you through the steps to manually connect to these network drives and help you identify which drive is appropriate for specific types of files.
Types of Network Drives
There are multiple drives that you can connect to on campus but you’ll want to make sure you are storing files in the appropriate drive for your needs.
N Drive
Contains files/folders for all EKU administrative areas and colleges
An administrative area is any area not related to a particular college (Financial Aid,Registration, Records, IT, etc.)
Mapped under “This PC” as the N:Drive
Privacy: Internally viewable by those assigned within your department or college. NOT viewable by the general public
If you need access to the N Drive you can put in a ticket here. Please include your username, EKU ID number, and the path that you will need access to.
Faculty store documents/folders that students can view in labs
Mapped as L: Drive in “This PC” with path of \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\Cifs\labs
Q Drive
Contains files/folders that are potentially needed for all Faculty and Staff at EKU
Includes various software packages, University Forms, and technical documents
Mapped as Q: Drive in “This PC” as \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\eku_pub
Privacy Level: Internally viewable by those assigned. Not viewable by the general public
U Drive
User storage space (2 gigabyte)
Employee personal files may be stored here
Mapped as U: Drive in “This PC” as \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\user\%username%
Privacy: Files on this drive are seen only by the employee
P Drive
University-wide projects are located here
Users may work on a project with other departments without compromising the security of their N: Drive
Mapped as P: Drive in “This PC”
Privacy: Internally viewable by those assigned. NOT viewable to general public
Connecting to Network Drives
Below you will find the steps to connect to the Drives listed above. Some Drives like the N, P, and L Drives require access given by the service desk. You can use the link above to access a form to submit that request.
Connect a new Network Drive by searching for file explorer and then right clicking on “This PC,” choose “Map network drive” from the toolbar, and enter this information:
Drive Letter: (choose N,P,L,Q, or U:)
Network Path:
N: \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\ekudata
P: \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\Projects
L: \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\Cifs\labs
Q: \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\eku_pub
U: \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\user\%username%
Check the box for “Reconnect on login” and it should always show up
If you’d like to create a shortcut on your desktop follow these steps:
Right click on the desktop and choose “New” and then “Shortcut”
In the “Create Shortcut” dialog box, type this:
N: \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\ekudata
P: \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\Projects
L: \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\Cifs\labs
Q: \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\eku_pub
U: \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\user\%username%
Click Next
Enter the name for the shortcut, like “N Drive” in the next dialog
Click “Finish”
Quick Instructions for Mac
From the “Go” menu, choose “Connect to Server”
In the window presented, enter one of the six items:
For the L: drive: smb://facultystaff.eku.edu/filesrv/Cifs/labs
For the N: drive: smb://facultystaff.eku.edu/filesrv/ekudata
For the P: drive: smb://facultystaff.eku.edu/filesrv/Projects
For the Q: drive: smb://facultystaff.eku.edu/filesrv/eku_pub
For the U: drive: smb://facultystaff.eku.edu/filesrv/user/yourEmailUserName
Note: replace EmailUserName with your email username, typically your last name followed by the first letter(s) of your first name

In the “This PC” window, click on “Map Network Drive” and enter the information below.
In the window presented choose the letter and enter the following address:
For the L: drive enter: \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\Cifs\labs
For the N: drive enter: \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\ekudata
For the P: drive enter: \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\Project
For the Q: drive enter: \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\eku_pub
For the U: drive enter: \\facultystaff.eku.edu\filesrv\user\%username% (copy and paste this without modification)
