About

Colonels Camp is Campus Recreation’s week long camp session during the summer for children in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade. In addition to experiencing the Student Recreation Center and the EKU Campus, children will participate in a variety of activities including swimming, rock climbing, sports, games, crafts, education sessions, field trips and more.

The overall mission of Colonels Camp is to provide children with development opportunities of transferable skills, such as communication, teamwork, listening and critical thinking, while exploring all forms of recreation and having fun at the same time. Campus Recreation plans to achieve this through encouraging children to participate in exciting activities throughout the week and effectively working together with other children.

Where

Colonels Camp will be held at the Student Recreation Center at Eastern Kentucky University. Additional campus locations will be used for activities. Colonels Camp will travel off campus for field trips, but will stay within the state.

When

Colonels Camp will take place from Monday to Friday for 8 weeks in total, through the months June and July. Each week will have a unique theme, with various activities aligning with that week’s themes. Dates and themes are provided below.

  • Safari Week: June 2 – June 6
  • Sports Week: June 9th – June 13th
  • Splish Splash Water Week: June 16th – June 20th
  • Lost in Space Week: June 23rd – June 27th
  • Decades Week: July 7th – July 11th
  • Under the Sea Week: July 14th – July 18th
  • Carnival Week: July 21st – July 25th
  • Adventure Week: July 28th – August 1st

Each day of Colonels Camp will take place from 8am-5pm, with drop-off beginning at 7:30am and pick-up ending at 5:30pm.

Cost

A member and non-member rate for Colonels Camp is available. Individuals that are current members of the Student Recreation Center are eligible for the member rate. Rates are provided below.

  • Member Rate: $130 plus tax/week
  • Sibling Rate: $100 plus tax / sibling / week
  • Non-Member Rate: $160 plus tax/week
  • Sibling rate: $130 plus tax / sibling / week

A payment plan can be set up if paying the total amount of Colonels Camp upfront is a concern. Please email Ryan Fisher (ryan.fisher@eku.edu) for more information. For any established payment plan, the total amount must be paid by the Monday prior to the registered week of Colonels Camp. If not paid a week prior, registration for that week will be forfeited to another individual.

Please note, in order to save, both Colonels Camp and a membership must be purchased in the same transaction.

Registration

Registration for Colonels Camp will primarily take place online by clicking here. During the registration process, all of the necessary information will be submitted as well as the option to add a sibling(s).

Registration can also take place in person at the Student Recreation Center. Please stop by the Front Desk of the facility during operating hours and the student staff will be able to assist. Accepted forms of payment include cash, check, and all major credit and debit cards. Checks must be made out to “EKU Campus Recreation”.

While online registration is encouraged, in-person registration is an option and can be done at the Front Desk of the Student Recreation Center. Please contact Ryan Fisher to register in person.

Required forms, including the waiver, are included in the registration process if done online. If registering in person, a hard copy will be provided to complete.

For online registration, all major credit and debit cards are accepted. For in-person registration, cash, check, and all major credit and debit cards are accepted. Checks need to be made out to EKU Campus Recreation.

Illness, injury, or other extenuating circumstances documented by a physician or accredited third party may be directed to Ryan Fisher for consideration of a refund. These requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may or may not be awarded.

Drop-off and pick-up will be at the Front Desk of the Student Recreation Center. Parking is available in the roundabout. Colonels Camp staff will be outside each day to assist.

Yes. Please contact Ryan Fisher to make any necessary arrangements for the week.

While the children will be together for some portions of the day, they will be separated by age and/or grade during some activities.

Colonels Camp Counselors are all current EKU students. For every 10 children, there is one counselor. Depending on the activity or field trip, additional counselors may be scheduled. While swimming, lifeguards will be on duty. All staff are CPR-, AED-, and first aid-certified.

Comfortable and athletic clothing is recommended to wear, such as a t-shirt and shorts. In addition, closed-toe athletic footwear is recommended.

Children are encouraged to bring a light jacket or sweatshirt in the event of cooler temperatures. On swimming days, children should bring a swimsuit and towel. These days will be highlighted in the weekly schedule.

Yes. Colonels Camp provides the equipment for each activity.

Lunch and a snack should be brought each day, as there will be a designated time for both. Lunch boxes will be stored in the refrigerator as needed. For some field trips lunch will be provided. Information will be sent out prior to each field trip.

Personal items, such as electronics, toys, and books should NOT be brought to Colonels Camp. The activities scheduled throughout the week are intended to keep the children engaged and active.
