The Artificial Intelligence Faculty Innovator (AI FI) Fellowship Program seeks to enhance teaching and learning at EKU by integrating innovative artificial intelligence (AI) practices into educational environments. AI FIs champion thoughtful and effective use of AI tools, serving as mentors and role models to faculty across the university.
Expectations of Artificial Intelligence Faculty Innovators (AI FIs)
Artificial Intelligence Faculty Innovators are expected to:
Demonstrate passion for integrating artificial intelligence into teaching and learning to improve student success.
Show willingness to take thoughtful risks experimenting with AI tools and strategies.
Mentor and influence colleagues, providing support and overcoming potential resistance to AI adoption.
Display comfort with ambiguity, creatively determining best practices for AI integration.
Serve as advocates and leaders for responsible AI use within their colleges and university-wide.
AI Faculty Innovators will specifically:
Collaborate with the Faculty Center for Teaching & Learning (FCT&L) and the Director of Artificial Intelligence Strategies to guide faculty in responsible AI integration.
Lead workshops, mentoring sessions, and faculty consultations on AI topics such as:
AI literacy and competency development
Ethical AI use and academic integrity
AI-enhanced teaching and assessment strategies
Develop and disseminate resources, guidelines, and best practices for integrating artificial intelligence into academic workflows.
Collaborate with faculty to create effective AI-aware assessments and teaching practices.
Document AI initiatives and measure their effectiveness for ongoing refinement and institutional impact.
Contribute actively to scholarly discussions on AI’s role in education, showcasing innovative uses through presentations and written communications.
Attend all scheduled Faculty Innovator meetings and maintain active communication with the Faculty Center for Teaching & Learning.
Qualifications
Strong teaching record and interest in innovative pedagogies.
Curiosity and willingness to learn and apply artificial intelligence technologies.
Demonstrated capability to mentor and collaborate effectively with faculty colleagues.
Ability to balance innovative AI adoption with traditional academic values and standards.
Commitment and Term
AI Faculty Innovators serve a three-year term, dedicating approximately 5-7 hours per week to fellowship-related responsibilities. A stipend is provided for their service. Upon completion, AI FIs will become members of the Council of Faculty Innovators, continuing their advocacy for innovative teaching practices at EKU.
Application Process
Interested faculty will complete an application form, including a recommendation from their Department Chair or Dean. A committee of current Faculty Innovators will review applications each year to select new AI Faculty Innovators.
