Please read carefully. In order to report an alleged academic integrity violation, faculty must do the following:
Submit an Academic Integrity Priors Check request. Wait to receive results before proceeding to the next step. This request is to determine if the student has any prior academic integrity violations. You should receive an email with the results within 1 business day. We are happy to discuss the incident and your options moving forward. Feel free to call 859-622-1500.
Inform the student of the alleged academic integrity violation by scheduling a meeting or communicating through EKU email. In your discussion, inform the student that they will receive an email from Student Conduct and that they have the right to accept the sanction, or to appeal.
Complete the Academic Integrity Reporting Form entirely. Please include all supporting documents and evidence. The student will receive an email from our office with information regarding the alleged violation. They will have 5 business days to accept responsibility & the recommended sanction OR have an appeal hearing.
If the student accepts the sanction, the case is closed. If the student desires to appeal the sanction, the Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards will meet with the student to discuss the violation and the appeal process. The Director may contact the faculty member for clarification and/or more information before meeting with the student.
After the Director meets with the student, they will send a notice to the faculty member confirming whether the student still desires to appeal the sanction. If the student accepts the sanction at this point, the case is closed. If the student still wants to appeal the sanction, the Director will schedule a hearing with the student, instructor, and the appropriate Academic Integrity Committee(s).
Students with an Unresolved Case at the time of Grade Submission:
If a mid-term or final grade is to be reported to the University during the pendency of the academic integrity procedures, the responsible faculty member shall report an “incomplete” for the involved student until the final resolution of the matter.
Students who Stop Attending Class:
If a student stops attending class after notification of an Academic Integrity violation and fails to indicate whether they will appeal or accept the sanction, the responsible faculty member shall report an “incomplete” for the involved student until the final resolution of the matter. The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards will also place an administrative hold on the students account until there is a final resolution.
Appeals Hearings Scheduled After the Semester Grades are Submitted:
If a student has an alleged AI violation and has indicated that he or she wants to appeal the violation and sanction, but the hearing is scheduled to occur after final grades are due, the responsible faculty member shall report an “incomplete” for the involved student until the final resolution of the matter.
