December 14, 2022 – Eastern Kentucky University faculty and staff recently recognized three graduating seniors for their exemplary academic and professional accomplishments.
This year’s recipients of the Homeland Security Program Outstanding Senior Award are Madison Hicks (pictured on the left) and Delaney Dees (pictured on the right). Faculty provide this award each semester to students enrolled in both the on-campus and online programs who have demonstrated excellence based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, service to the community, and other attributes. Both Madison and Delaney graduated with the highest Baccalaureate Latin Honor here at EKU–Summa Cum Laude.
Madison completed the B.S. in Homeland Security degree while working as a correctional officer in Lexington-Fayette County, and as a member of the Kentucky Army National Guard. Madison is now an explosive operator for the U.S. Army Joint Munitions Command. Delaney completed multiple academic credentials at EKU, including two university certificates–Intelligence Studies and Security Management–and a Minor in Disaster Management. Next up for Delaney is a career with Kentucky State Police.
Winning this year’s mock job interview top prize is Kylie Powell (pictured in the middle). Seniors competed for this top spot by participating in a job interview with a panel of five faculty and staff members. These interviews help students reflect on their educational and extracurricular experiences, and gain practice answering questions in the format of an interview.
Kylie received the B.S. in Homeland Security degree, three university certificates–Intelligence Studies, Security Management, and Geographic Information Systems–and a Minor in Disaster Management. Her experiences include internships with the Richmond (Ky.) Police Department and the Department of Criminal Justice Training, and she is now a Court Appointed Special Advocate in multiple Kentucky counties.
According to Dr. Chad Foster, program coordinator, “we [faculty and staff] are super proud of all of the graduating seniors and know they will have bright futures.”
