In addition to fulfilling the admission requirements of the Graduate School, applicants to the Master of Arts in English program are required to meet the following criteria:
- GRE (General Test) scores of 400 or higher on the verbal section and 3.0 or higher on the analytical writing section. A student without GRE scores may be given provisional admission for the first semester only, provided that other criteria are met. (International students are required to submit TOEFL scores in addition to GRE scores.)
- A minimum of 18 hours of upper-division English courses, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in those courses, as shown on the applicant’s undergraduate transcript(s). Applicants who fail to meet this requirement generally are not admitted until they take additional undergraduate work in English, which will not count towards the M.A. degree.
All application materials are available online through the Graduate School website.
