The following courses are required to complete the ESL Endorsement (12 Hours)
- EME 751 Linguistics in the Curriculum (3 Hours)
- EMS 777 Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Teaching (3 Hours)
- EMS 775 Methods for Multilingual Learners (3 Hours)
- EMS 776 Assessment for Multilingual Learners (3 Hours)
Note: Student must pass the required Praxis II exam for endorsement to be added to teaching license.

Gifted Education (Grades P-12) Endorsement (12 Hours)

- EMS 855 Gifted and Talented Youth (3 Hours)
- EMS 856 Curriculum in Gifted/Talented Education (3 Hours)
- EMS 857 Model Programs for Gifted and Talented Education (3 Hours)
- EMS 858 Practicum for Gifted and Talented Education (3 Hours)

Literacy Specialist (Grades P-12) Endorsement (15 Hours)

The following courses are required to complete the Literacy Specialist Endorsement (15 Hours)
- ELE 871 Literacy Programs P-5 OR EMG 806 Reading Instruction in the Middle school (3 Hours)
- EMS 873 Trends and Issues in Language Arts (3 Hours)
- EMS 875 Literacy Assessment and Instruction (3 Hours)
- EMS 876 Literacy, Leadership, and Advocacy (3 Hours)
- EME 877 Practicum for Reading Specialists (3 Hours)

Endorsement Programs FAQ's
Q: "Can I use Endorsement Programs towards a Rank 1 Certification?"
Yes! A Rank 1 Certification requires that you have completed a Master’s Degree (Rank 2), apply to EKU Graduate School, and complete 30 additional hours of graduate coursework. Endorsement Programs are a great way to satisfy this requirements as this increases marketability.
Q: " Do I have to be a teacher to achieve an Endorsement?"
No. An Endorsement Program can apply to any teacher, paraeducator, or school leader. An Endorsement provides you with additional skills and marketability.
Q: "I have not heard anything back regarding my graduate school application, who do I contact?"
