Why Study Communication?

Communication is essential in many aspects of life, including personal interactions with family, workplace connections, and the exchange of information on a global scale. Communication is fundamental to how people understand and experience the world around them. Graduates from this School develop skills in gathering information, writing, and using media technology which allows them to move into a wide range of companies and professions.

The School of Communication is located on the third floor of the Combs Building in the center of campus. In addition to classrooms and faculty offices, the school offers three Mac labs with state-of-the-art design software (Adobe Creative Cloud). The school also offers a podcast studio, a web video studio, a full-size video studio, a student media center for print and digital publishing, and an audio production lab.

Our mission is to train you to be a journalist, a broadcaster, a filmmaker, a public relations practitioner, or a communication studies specialist, and to help you make the leap in four years from student to media professional.

We believe communication education is like a balance bringing together theory and practice by employing mentoring, coaching, and teaching. Our professors balance a foundation in the issues with an understanding of technology.

Our courses emphasize hands-on learning as well as models of instruction that teach students how to be successful media professionals, as well as how to recognize and adjust to the changing media environment of the 21st century.
