Choose between three concentrations that offer the opportunity to tailor the degree to specific career goals and give you a competitive edge in the job market. Options include:

In this concentration, students will learn to produce, direct, write, perform, manage, and to create commercials, public service announcements, sports programs, promotional videos, music videos, and entertainment programs for television, the Internet or other platforms.

In this concentration, students will demonstrate excellence in writing, visualizing, shooting, editing, and cinematic storytelling. Students take classes in cinema history, screenwriting, and motion graphics and have access to top-notch technology as they develop these skills.

In this concentration, students will develop skills in gathering information, writing, news production, and visual storytelling. Students will use cross-platform skills within journalistic standards and present news and commentary to a diverse audience.

Curriculum & Enrollment


Communication education is like a balance bringing together theory and practice by employing mentoring, coaching and teaching. Our professors balance a foundation in the issues with an understanding of technology.

Our courses emphasize hands-on learning as well as models of instruction that teach students how to be successful media professionals, as well as how to recognize and adjust to the changing media environment.

A minimum of 120 credits are required to graduate.

Students may transfer up to 90 hours of credit from accredited institutions. Please note that a minimum of 30 credit hours in this degree program must be completed at Eastern Kentucky University.

Previously earned credits must be reviewed upon admission to EKU for appropriate articulation.

All applicants must provide an application and evidence of appropriate scholastic achievement through prior educational experience.

Please note that certain degree programs have special admission requirements. Admission to the University does not mean automatic admission to all degree programs.

The completed application and all required supporting documentation must be received by the University no later than:

• August 1 for fall enrollment
• December 1 for spring enrollment
• May 1 for summer enrollment
