Academy Scholars
“The A-Team”

Academy Scholars Program Overview:

Grounded in experiential learning, the Academy Scholars program empowers first year EKU students with the skills and knowledge they need to be excellent in all they choose to do.  Through participating in the program, all Academy Scholars will be game changers who build a meaningful sense of belonging at EKU. Participants will have opportunities throughout the academic year to meet up at events hosted by the Center for Inclusive Excellence and Global Engagement (CIEGE) and their campus partners.

  • Connect with like-minded peers to build a sense of belonging at EKU

Attend exclusive social events and off-campus trips
  • Receive EKU branded swag
  • Develop leadership skills to be a global minded citizen
  • Increase access to staff and faculty support
  • Live in the Academy Scholars Living Learning Community

Who Can Be an Academy Scholar:

Any first year EKU student interested in developing a sense of belonging at EKU to be a game changer, including but not limited to first-generation students, international students, under-resourced students, underrepresented students, and disabled students.

Academy Scholars Program requirements:

  • Attend Center for Inclusive Excellence and Global Engagement events in Fall and Spring semesters
  • Participate in Peer-to-Peer mentorship “Teams”
  • 
Complete 3 community hours per week in any of the following spaces: Center for Inclusive Excellence and Global Engagement, El Centro, Center for Africana Engagement, EKU Libraries, Student Success Center

Global Leaders Unite (GLU)
“Think Globally, Act Locally”

GLU is an academic year long endeavor where students will build community, develop intercultural competencies, and understand their role as a global citizen. Participants are required to attend unique, culturally engaging events that promote local action and global impact while preparing students to study abroad.

Students in GLU will:

  • Explore global citizenship through conversations and civic engagement,
  • Develop intercultural communication skills
  • Earn a chance to win one of two $2500 study abroad scholarships
  • Apply for Passport

This program is in partnership with the Education Abroad Center.

Student Organizations

Student organizations are a great way to connect with other students, develop leadership skills, and impact our campus community. The CIEGE is home to the Intercultural Student Leadership Coalition (ISLC), a council of student organization leaders representing The Black Student Union, Queerdos, the Latino Student Association, The Asian American Association, NPHC and MGC Organizations, and more!
