The College of Health Sciences Scholars Day is a special event held annually to honor our students and faculty mentors in their pursuit of outstanding research, scholarship, and creative endeavors. Scholars Day brings together our college community in supportive recognition and understanding of the wide spectrum of research disciplines in which our students and faculty are involved. Presentations have included 50 research posters with more than 90 students involved. Each student presenter (or group) works with a faculty mentor over the past year, and you will see their efforts coming to fruition in their final presentations. We believe the research skills learned during this process will assist our students throughout their professional careers.
Student research projects represent three categories:
1) Traditional Research Poster
2) Discipline Application/Innovation Poster
3) Case Study Poster
Scholars Day 2022
Awards were presented to research projects within each of these overall categories as well as within each of our six departments. Mr. Rich Mattingly delivered the keynote address to more than 350 attendees on “Mental Health and Resiliency.” Mattingly is a 1978 graduate of EKU and was recently named a Distinguished Alumni by the university.
This year was exciting because not only were we back in person for the first time since 2019, but we were also in the center of campus in the Keen Johnson Building. This was our first year of awarding outstanding alumni for their contributions to the various fields of health sciences. Dr. Mendy Blair received the Distinguished Alumni Award and Mr. Nicholas Sexton received the Emerging Leader Award. What an exciting time to be in person, in one our most historical buildings, celebrating health sciences!
