Center for Student Parents

The Center for Student Parents is a place to feel supported, accepted, and prepared for life as a parenting college student. Through guidance, academic support, advising, workshops, referrals, and employment opportunities, student parents can graduate and meet educational and personal goals.

The Richmond office is located in the Turley House. The Corbin office is located in Room 117.

Located at the Turley House, we offer private study spaces for student parents. Each space has computers and access to printing. Our space is a great place to study for an exam, login into class or complete homework, take a lunch break from classes; all while children are in school or at childcare.

The Center for Student Parents student participants are given the opportunity to explore various careers while gaining valuable work readiness skills. Students are placed in and off campus work placements that allow them to learn about a variety of work sites all while building their work history. CSP staff members work individually and in large groups on resume writing, interview skills, dressing for the work place and skills for being a good employee. You can also gain valuable work experiences through job shadowing, practicums, internships and cooperative education.

For days when childcare has fallen through, our private study space is available to you. A nice space with toys, a private lactation space, mini refrigerator and a computer is available for your use. Parents are in charge of watching your child. Please call ahead to ensure the space is not being used.

The Center for Student Parents offers a variety of personal and professional support programs to help broaden your knowledge, provide education and increase support. You can attend workshops on topics such as parenting, mindfulness, budgeting, credit repair and workplace expectations. Our support staff are also available to meeting individually to discuss setting goals, family challenges, employment opportunities, career goals and more.

Student parents participating in the Kentucky Temporary Assistance Program (KTAP) qualify for work study positions on and off campus. These positions help to support your family’s income while in college. Work Study builds work readiness skills and provides career development opportunities.

Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program (KTAP) provides financial and medical assistance to needy dependent children in Kentucky and the parents, or relatives, with whom the children are living. KTAP also helps families find jobs or get training that leads to a job.

To receive a work study position with the Center for Student Parents you must:

  • Apply for KTAP by contacting your local Department for Community Based Services office
  • Be a full time student (holding 12 or more hours) at Eastern Kentucky University
  • Apply for the position

This program is funded in whole or in part by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, and has been supporting student parents at Eastern Kentucky University since 1998.
