Mike Weglarz joins Eastern Kentucky University as Program Director of the Risk Management and Insurance department. Mike is a successful business leader and mentor with extensive experience in insurance, financial services, and real estate, with a core ability to connect the industry with student talent.
Most recently, for the past eight years, he was an Associate Professor within the Risk Management and Insurance department at Olivet College in Olivet, Michigan. Mike also successfully operated a full-service Allstate Insurance Agency in Metropolitan Detroit. Aside from being a successful business owner, Mike has also been a pre-licensing insurance instructor for the past ten years at Kaplan Financial and a licensing school he co-founded, the Michigan School of Insurance. He has helped thousands of adult learners prepare and become licensed insurance producers in Michigan in life, accident, health insurance, and property and casualty insurance.
Mike earned a Master of Arts in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University. He holds numerous certifications in sales and leadership to go along with his licenses in property and casualty, life, accident, and health insurance within Michigan, and previously held FINRA securities – Series 6 and 63. Lastly, Mike also has the prestigious risk management credential Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation and is a licensed real estate broker focusing on commercial, industrial, and investment real estate.
Mike has a passion for all sports and a constant thirst for learning and self-improvement. He is a recently retired high school basketball coach who coached for 20 years at his alma mater, Brother Rice High School in Birmingham, Michigan, and, most recently, at Bloomfield Hills High School. He is married and is the proud father of two adult children.
