About the Department

The Department of Biological Sciences has approximately 500 undergraduates majoring in one of our many degree concentrations as well as approximately 40 graduate students.

Our faculty has expertise that spans all levels of biological organization, from molecular and cellular biology to ecosystem services to preparing students who wish to apply to a professional school. Our faculty members teach in the classrooms and labs on a daily basis and also guide both graduate and undergraduate students in independent research projects, many funded by outside agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency, National Institutes of Health, Earthwatch and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

EKU’s strong general education program allows students to gain a broad perspective in areas of art, humanities, social sciences, English, mathematics and science. Classes within our programs are designed to develop skills in critical thinking, preparing students for success in their career of choice.
