Scholarships

There are many ways in which to help fund your education including scholarships offered through the department, the college, the university, and from outside sources.

Department of Art & Design Scholarships

Apply using the Art and Design Scholarship Application Form.

Jennifer E. Antoniou Endowed Art Memorial Fund

Is made possible by family and friends to honor the memory of Jennifer E. Antoniou. It may be awarded to a Junior or Senior BFA Major (at least 60 hours earned) with an overall GPA of 3.0 who is able to demonstrate financial need. This scholarship is to help pay for the cost of art supplies.

Aymara Castillo Art-Service Award

Is a scholarship which is made possible by a generous donation from the family and friends of Aymara Castillo (posthum. BA’01) to Eastern Kentucky University. Ms. Castillo was, in addition to being a talented art student, one who generously gave of her time to the service of the Art Department, serving as a member and president of the Art Student Association. The award is given to a deserving student majoring in art at EKU, who like Aymara, has exhibited scholarship, leadership, and service to the Art Department and/or Community. The student must have reached Senior level (completed 90 hours) and have an overall GPA of 3.0 or better.

Christina Thurman-Lynn Memorial Art Scholarship

Is a scholarship made possible by family and friends to honor Christina Lynn (BFA’02) and the contributions she made in their lives. May be awarded to a BFA major with a 3.0 GPA (Art area only) who is enrolled as a full-time student, employed on or off campus with a minimum of 56-60 hours in progress, be in good academic standing at time of award, be a natural born United States citizen, and be admitted to the BFA Photography or Metals program with priority going to Photography.

Creighton Endowed Art Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is made possible by a generous donation from Elizabeth and Peter Creighton of Richmond. The scholarship is given to an Art major with at least 36 hours earned with a minimum 3.0 GPA with not more than one course repeated because it had an unsatisfactory grade and at least nine hours completed in Art at Eastern Kentucky University with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in Art subjects. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. Applicants must also provide a letter to the Chair of the Department of Art that identifies their career goals.

The Daniel Richard Deane, Jr. Art Education Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship pays tribute to Emeritus Faculty Richard Deane’s dedication and service to Art Education at EKU and is made possible by family and friends and state match funds. The award is given to an Art Education major. Incoming Freshmen in Art Education may apply. Applicants must complete the application and include a letter written by the student explaining, in narrative form, why they would be a good candidate. Include a letter of support from the student’s art teacher/professor or school official who is willing to speak of the positive self-character, artistic potential in visual art, and leadership qualities of the student. Other items, such as scanned images of the student’s artwork, are permitted but not required. No original artwork will be accepted.

Louise G. Erekson Scholarship in Art Fund

This scholarship is awarded to a student in the Art and Design Department, preference given to a student who is studying painting. Student recipients must be admitted to the university in accordance with the Standard University procedures and admissions criteria and be pursuant of a degree. In awarding the scholarship, preference shall also be given to a married student. Applicants must demonstrate financial need.

House of Onyx Fund for Excellence in Jewelry and Metals

This scholarship is awarded is for a student majoring in the Jewelry-Metals area for the expressed purpose of purchasing tools and materials necessary for their jewelry / metals classes and in cooperation with the jewelry / metals faculty. A student may receive this award only once in any academic year but may reapply yearly for a maximum of three awards. Applicants must meet a 3.0 GPA in Jewelry/Metals classes. Submit an official transcript. Submit a portfolio of work (3-5 digital images on a CD or flash drive) and sketches completed in jewelry / metals classes at EKU. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in craftsmanship, innovation in design, and show strong interest in the jewelry industry or jewelry education through participation in field trips, lectures, or jewelry studies projects.

College of Letters, Arts, & Social Sciences Scholarships

Art majors may also apply for the following scholarships which are awarded by the University of behalf of College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences.

John McMillian Long Endowed Scholarship
which may be awarded to a full-time student majoring in: Art, Music, Theatre, English, Foreign Languages, History, Art History, Music History, Speech Communication, Philosophy , or Religion and who have a 3.0 GPA or above and who demonstrate performance accomplishments and potential.
Apply for this scholarship through the university Scholarships Office.

EKU Foundation Scholarships

The Eastern Kentucky University Foundation, through the generosity of its donors, offers a variety of scholarship opportunities to deserving undergraduate and graduate students.  These privately-funded scholarships reward scholastic achievement and enhance the University community through the attraction of academically talented students.  Some specific scholarships honor EKU’s alumni and retirees along with Eastern’s commitment to diversity and multiculturalism.

“FAFSA data is required for many of the Foundation scholarships, and EKU must receive your FAFSA data by March 1 to be considered for need-based Foundation scholarships.  You can complete the FAFSA online at the Federal Student Aid website. 

(Please note that all foundation scholarships require applicants to fill out the Foundation Scholarship Application.)

University Scholarships

Eastern Kentucky University awards scholarships to a number of students which are either merit based or need based. Visit the Scholarships Office to see if you may be eligible to apply for a scholarship through EKU.

Scholarships Funded Outside the University

Many corporations, agencies and government entities also help to fund students through scholarships. Contact our Scholarship Office or visit their website to help your search to find funding for your education.
